H2S Technology
For over 40 years, going back to our Girdler heritage, C&I has engineered H2S plants around the globe. A critical component in the mining of nickel and cobalt, H2S facilities are complex to engineer, requiring a knowledge of the reaction kinetics and correct sulfur physical properties to use. Simply scaling up or down based on an existing design is not sufficient. The critical issue is knowledge of the proper metallurgy for each piece of equipment and the proven design of this equipment to achieve the desired H2S capacity and purity. That is where C&I’s expertise and years of experience comes into play.
C&I’s process team has vast hydrogen, sulfur, and hydrogen sulfide expertise with operation experience in refinery processes such as sulfur recovery, H2S gas treating, hydrotreating, Claus Units, sour water stripping, distillate desulfurization, platformers, and hydrogen generation.
We have developed a H2S model using Hysys simulation software, sized major equipment (reactor, quench tower, sulfur cooler, and H2S coolers), evaluated metallurgy requirements for equipment and piping, prepared equipment specifications, and prepared necessary PFD and P&ID’s. C&I’s E&I department developes the instrumentation and control philosophy for the plants given design conditions and metallurgy specifications.
