NEAR ZERO SULFUR DIESEL HYDROTREATER
C&I developed the complete process engineering design (Front-End Engineering Design) package for this refiner's Near Zero Sulfur Diesel Hydrotreater. A Pro II model of the existing facility was developed and calibrated to be used for the expansion design. This effort will allow the refiner to comply with all of the diesel sulfur regulations and continue to produce both on-road and off-road diesel without any reduction in the refinery's processing capacity.
AMINE EXPANSION
C&I analyzed and designed changes to the Sulfur Recovery Unit / Amine System to expand and process a minimum of 100+ Long Tons/Day of sulfur in the form of H2S from the refinery sour gas stream. Deliverables include: PFDs, P&IDs, equipment list, plot plan, capital cost estimates, heat and material balances along with process models, drawings for construction, purchase requisitions, procurement.
STRANDED GAS RECOVERY (NSPS SUB PART J)
This project centered on the installation of a new reciprocating compressor. The ISBL portion of the project includes the installation of the compressor, heat exchangers, pressure vessels, pumps, foundations, structural steel, electrical & instrumentation, and piping required to make the compressor operational. The OSBL portion of the project includes the installation of stranded gas piping to the compressor, compressor discharge streams, and associated utility piping.
BOILER CONSOLIDATION
This project provided proactive improvements to the refinery steam generation and water treating infrastructure - eliminating a large recurring maintenance effort, providing NOx reductions, and bringing the systems into the control of the central utilities business unit. The project scope initialized the replacement of all existing package boilers. This effort provides the groundwork for a true steam utilities unit essential to providing reliable steam for refinery processes.
DISTILLATE OPTIMIZATION
This project involved resolving the handling of cetane in our clients low sulfur diesel product. It also provided a more precise blending system to reduce cetane giveaway. Major tasks included the installation of new pumps, a new mixer, new piping, new supports, new foundations, and new E&I components. The project was completed nearly $200,000 under budget.
COKER RENOVATION
C&I is providing the FEED, Detailed Design and Procurement for this extensive multi-disciplined Coker Renovation project. A sampling of the scope includes: Coke Drum Interlocks, Auto Unheading Valves, Sewer Upgrades, Lighting, Coke Car Thermal Imaging, EIV’s, Hot Pumps Seals, Coker Safety Improvements, Fire Suppression/Fighting System.
HEAVY CRUDE EXPANSION PROJECT
C&I managed the OSBL for a Mid-West refinery’s Heavy Crude Expansion Project. This effort encompassed: Coker Interim Upgrades / Egress, Flare Study, Naphtha Hydrotreater, Tankage, Piping Offsites, FCC, CO Boiler, Cooling Tower, and SRU / Amine.
GRASSROOTS CHEMICAL PLANT within an OIL REFINERY
This project for a mid-south U.S. refinery converts waste streams into a usable product. C&I provided the process technology and complete engineering - from conceptual to detail design and implementation. The 50 million lbs/year plant is to go online in 2010. This grassroots project is essentially a chemical facility located within the battery limits of the refinery.
ALKY SCRUBBER
The objective of the project was to eliminate hydrocarbon venting from the circulating tank during unit upsets, as well as provide a larger vessel to handle a worst case relief scenario. The project also called for the installation of a new washer system for neutralizing material. The washer technology reduces the fluorides from the Alky unit to the waste water treatment plant and positions the refinery to comply with the future NPDES regulations. C&I provided the FEED and detailed design engineering, including SP3D modeling.
